Elegant Paris

A ritzy RESIDENTIAL neighborhood! Silver spoon-fed youth and WELL-MANNERED grandparents walk their Labradors in the tree-lined side streets of this residential area where tourists rarely venture.

The local: Tod's shoes on the feet, a silk Hermès scarf around the neck.

Les contre-allées de l’Avenue Foch

Go for a stroll hand in hand through the side streets off the Avenue Foch. Take in the enormous bay windows of the ultra-rich residents, the buildings made of massive stones, the wrought iron grills on the facades, the small, well-hidden private gardens, and the perfectly Parisian streetlamps. End your walking tour at the Porte Dauphine métro station and enter on the even-numbered side of the avenue. It's one of the last stations in Paris still using a turnaround loop, created by Hector Guimard.

Musée Dapper

Hurry over to the Musée Dapper, a little-known cultural gem featuring the arts of Africa. If you worked up an appetite seeing the exhibits, the museum cafe, with its large, round tables and subdued atmosphere, is the perfect place to have tea and a pastry or lunch. The fresh and creative main dishes have an African influence (fish blanquette with lemongrass and coconut milk, for example), and the pastries are more traditional. 35 bis Rue Paul Valéry, 75116 Paris

Bois de Boulogne

Rent a rowboat all for yourself (10€ the first hour). Row for a bit and then sit back and enjoy the beautiful banks of the lake, the lapping of the water, the birds... Step onto one of the islets in the middle of the lower lake and have a picnic in the shade, as if you were in a Manet painting! It's magical.
Best during the week between noon and 5:00 pm to avoid the crowds.

Prunier

Head over to Prunier for lunch. As soon as you walk in, you'll recognize the influence of Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé, who is the current owner of the building. You'll be enchanted by the stunning Art Deco decor. Enjoy the minimalist gourmet dishes created by chef Eric Coisel. Seafood is the specialty of the house. Whatever you do, be sure to stop by the bathroom. Worth the trip just for the decor!

Akrame

Don't be deceived by the stark decor or the charming simplicity of the atmosphere. The culinary creations of Akrame Benallal are a rarified mélange of technique, innovation, flavors and emotion. The chef, who has 2 Michelin stars, offers surprise menus that change every month (4 or 6 entrees in the evening for 100€ or 130€, not including wine). This extremely driven, creative and surprising chef aptly claims, "In my kitchen, what I create is high fashion." 19 Rue Lauriston, 75016 Paris +33 1 40 67 11 16

La Gare

If you're in the mood for unpretentious brasserie cooking, you can dine in this former train station, which is now a hub for the upper-crust youth of Passy and flashy business professionals of the neighborhood. It is a simply stunning location, with a divine terrace when the weather's nice. Tucked into your colonial-style black armchair under the enormous skylight, you won't want to leave.

COS

The "premium" line of the H&M brand, COS is all about style. The clothes, which have very distinctive and stylish lines, are uniquely compelling. If you like the designs of Jill Sander or Helmut Lang, you'll love this affordable brand (tops for around 60€, dresses starting at 80€). The materials and construction are not the most luxurious, and the shop is packed on Saturdays, but the quality-price-style ratio can't be beat.

Mauboussin

Created in 1827 and dubbed a "great Parisian jewelry house" 100 years later at the height of the Art Deco movement, a style in which the craftsman excelled, Mauboussin is the same small, discreet brand it always was. It appeals to the youngest (or least wealthy) fans of traditional jewelry, and for good reason: you can find a ring here for as little as 500€. The perfect place to stop first if you want your proposal on the Pont des Arts to be accepted.

Aux Merveilleux de Fred

It's hard to believe, but this shop sells only one product! Of course, that one product is amazing! Picture this: a tender little meringue enveloped in light-as-air whipped cream and sprinkled with chocolate shavings (the white chocolate is even better, but to each his own). To die for! You can get mini versions to take out for a heavenly afternoon snack.
